I've been playing around with shutter speed lately, and I think it's an interesting way of capturing everyday images in a new light. In this case, I set the camera to a very high shutter speed and photographed a busy little brook, and I was very pleased with the results. It creates an almost abstract result, taking on a sort of stained glass appearance. I know we're trying to capture flat space this week, but I thought this one was an interesting example of ambiguous space, since it's not immediately clear what we're looking at or how to interpret it spatially.

David, this is another tremendous shot, my brother!!!! I love that you are playing with shutter speed... The fact that the motion of the water is captured so well and so in focus, it really makes this picture seem more than just water. It almost looks like an abstract painting, or at least that every detail of this shot is meant to be paid attention to. Consequently, I have spent a lot more time looking at this picture than I have at others. Righteous!!!
ReplyDeleteYour experimenting is yielding amazing results. I love how the water distorts the reality of what's beneath. The mixture of color and light is very satisfying and even more so with all of it being completely natural.
ReplyDeleteThis shot feels like it could be a lot of things; it feels very abstract. At first I thought it looked like it could be a shot of a beehive or something. You captured the texture remarkably well.
